Fentanyl also spelled fentanil, is a highly potent synthetic opioid used as an analgesic. Together with other drugs, it is used for anesthesia. It is also used recreationally, sometimes mixed with heroin, cocaine, benzodiazepines, or methamphetamine. An overdose of it can be neutralized by naloxone.
